Requirements

Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent. No prior firefighting experience is required — all training will be provided through the department’s recruit academy. Candidates must be at least 18 years old, possess or be able to obtain a valid Georgia driver’s license, and be physically capable of performing the duties of a firefighter.

Pay and Benefits

Physical Agility Test

Applicants must pass a physical agility test designed to assess the strength, endurance, and stamina necessary for firefighting. The test includes hose drags, ladder carries, stair climbs, equipment lifts, and victim rescues. Preparation and training are encouraged to ensure candidates can meet the demands of this challenging assessment.

We offer a wide range of National Professional Qualifications (NPQ) and specialized training courses to keep our personnel operationally ready. Our classes cover everything from hands-on fireground tactics—like Structural Fire Control and Engine Operations—to advanced technical disciplines, including Haz-Mat, Rope, and Vehicle Rescue. We also provide a complete leadership and educational track featuring Fire Officer I-IV and Fire Instructor certifications.

No. If you are already State Certified/NPQ qualified, you are eligible for immediate hiring and will complete an abbreviated orientation program designed to get you on the truck faster.

No. Paulding County offers a lateral pay scale that accounts for your qualifications and experience. Pay is dependent on qualifications (Range: $18.53 – $29.63/hr).

We offer a Defined Benefit Pension Plan. Retirement eligibility is based on the “Rule of 80” (Years of Service + Age = 80), with a minimum retirement age of 55.
